Reviews for Penang Flavours
Review highlights
Based on 660 reviewsPenang Flavours is widely recognized for delivering authentic Malaysian cuisine that resonates strongly with patrons seeking traditional flavors. Customers frequently commend the restaurant for its signature dishes like Laksa, Nasi Lemak, and fried fish head noodle, highlighting their freshness and well-balanced flavors. The venue’s bustling atmosphere and affordability further contribute to its appeal. However, feedback occasionally points to inconsistent seasoning and the absence of standout "wow" experiences in some dishes. The self-service setup and wait times during peak hours are also noted as part of the dining experience. Overall, Penang Flavours is appreciated for its genuine taste and comforting menu, making it a favored spot among those craving Malaysian home-style cooking in Doncaster.
The food here was ok, but there wasn't a wow factor. Some dishes lacked seasoning. Same level of quality we've had at a food court in a shopping centre. It was ok, but we probably wouldn't be rushing back.
Sunday 12:15pm queued at the entrance and waited for 30 mins before we were granted 3 seats :) Pay at the counter for the food 1st then self service to get utensils and water. Laksa Yong Tao Foo, Nasi Lemak Rendang and Char Bee Tai Bak were all came within 10 mins! You can ask for more chilies from the counter if you like. Overall, the food was 100% authentic Malaysian, very reasonable price, clean environment and good service...no complaints at all! The crowd was huge as the queue was still going on after we finished lunch, probably because they don't open for dinner on Sunday. Car park is limited and queue will be long, please take note.
Every visit to Penang Flavors feels like home. My go-to Kuey Teow + Teh Tarik, plus Lo Mai Chi and Lo Bak, bring back the warmest Penang memories.
The fried fish head noodle is absolutely my favorite! I love the rich, flavorful fish soup, which is incredibly fresh and beautifully complemented by an abundance of vibrant vegetables. Each bite is a delightful combination of textures and tastes, making it a truly satisfying dish. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates a hearty meal!
Penang Flavors in Doncaster definitely lives up to its Google reviews! As a big fan of Malaysian food, I had to give it a try. I walked in during lunch, and the place was completely packed—always a good sign. My rule of thumb is, if there are lots of Asian people in an Asian restaurant, it’s probably legit. Almost everyone was speaking Mandarin or Cantonese, which made me even more confident in my choice. The setup is pretty casual and self-serve. You order at the counter, grab your own water and utensils, and then wait for your food. I ended up ordering something just based on what I overheard from the table next to me, and while it wasn’t exactly what I expected, it was still spectacular. Looking around, I could see so many dishes I’d want to try on my next visit. The flavors were bold, authentic, and satisfying, though I did notice they’re a little heavy-handed with the MSG. Not a dealbreaker, but something to keep in mind. They also have a great selection of Asian drinks and iced teas that looked super tempting. Overall, a solid spot for Malaysian food, and I’ll definitely be back to try more!
This place offers a wide selection of kuih and serves typical Malaysian food. It’s always crowded, even around 5 or 5:30 PM. The portion sizes are quite generous, but the taste is just average.
Great Malaysian food everything we tried were delicious. It was our second visit today in 2 weeks. Very reasonable prices as well.
